Spend an evening with dementia at the New End Theatre

Published 20 January 2011

A highly-praised play about dementia will be showing at a Hampstead theatre next month starting on 15 February 2011.

'An Evening with Dementia', written and performed by Trevor T. Smith, starts its run at the New End Theatre in Hampstead on 15 February.

The play is a humorous and poignant look at an elderly actor with dementia who feels cut off from society by problems with his memory.

Trevor T. Smith, who performed the play at last year's Edinburgh Festival where it was highly recommended by the Fringe Review and the British Theatre Guide, said;

'I wrote the play because I believe plays should be topical and dare to tell the truth and I don't think there is a single play out there about dementia.

'I really believe in the power of theatre and dementia is an ideal subject. The play is not about dementia but a particular character that has dementia; an old roguish actor; and that allows the audience to be slightly removed from the subject; which makes it not so painful, but it can allow me as the writer/ actor to be more explicit, more telling.'

The play runs until 6 March. Showings are at 7pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and at 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets cost £14 and £12 for concessions. To order a ticket ring 0870 033 2733 or visit www.newendtheatre.co.uk
