Fiona Phillips backs new Alzheimer's Society recipe book
Published 24 December 2010
A recipe book with contributions from people with dementia and their carers has been endorsed by celebrity ambassador Fiona Phillips.
'Recipes Remembered' features a selection of 98 recipes, plus a foreword by Fiona Phillips, and was released on 10 December.
The idea was developed by Dementia Support Worker Gill Fields, who works at the Southampton and Eastleigh Area Office, as a way of raising funds for new groups and services.
Gill Fields said;
'The response was staggering and we received a wonderful selection of recipes ranging from nostalgic old favourites to the new and unusual. Fiona Phillips kindly agreed to support our project and provided the foreword for the book, which has considerably raised the profile of our publication.'
Funds raised by the book will contribute towards running a Singing for the brain group, memory café and activities group, in addition to the area's existing services.
In her foreword Fiona Phillips said;
'These services provide an opportunity for people with dementia to come together with their carers to meet in a supportive and friendly environment, to enjoy social interaction and engaging activities as well as providing practical and emotional support, which is so important.'
The cost of the book is £5 per copy, plus £1.20 postage and packaging, with all cheques made payable to Alzheimer's Society. Copies can be obtained from Alzheimer's Society, 40 Chamberlayne Mews, Chamberlayne Road, Eastleigh, Hampshire SO50 5JH. For more information call 023 8061 0159.
