World cup winner Gordon Banks backs Alzheimer's Society
Published 2 December 2010
World Cup winner, Gordon Banks, is the latest footballing legend to back Alzheimer's Society to become The Football League's charity partner for the 2011/12 season.
The England goalkeeping great joins Robbie Savage, Lawrie McMenemy and Bert Williams MBE in urging football fans across the country to support Alzheimer's Society in the public vote.
Gordon, who is patron of Alzheimer's Society's North Staffordshire services, says:
'I understand how isolating Alzheimer's can be. My brother has had it for 10 years and it is really very sad, especially when you remember the person they used to be. For their partner, the person that looks after them, it's like a prison sentence. You can't get away from it. I got involved with the Society because I wanted to help and I want all football fans to the same and vote for Alzheimer's Society as the Football League's Charity of the Year.'
The Football League partnership has the potential to raise £500,000 which could make a huge difference to people with dementia and their carers. To vote for Alzheimer's Society as The Football League's charity partner for the 2011/12 season please visit their website.
You can vote as many times as you like - please vote, refresh and vote again!
Voting closes 12noon, Wednesday, 8 December.
