An update on the NICE appeal
Published 13 November 2007
The Alzheimer's Society have been campaigning against guidance from the NICE which cruelly proposes restricting access to Alzheimer's drugs to people in the moderate stages of the disease.
At the July appeal hearing on the NICE guidance on Alzheimer's Drugs, NICE told us that we would be given the outcome of the appeal within 3 weeks.
Three weeks have now come and gone and we still have not been given the outcome.
We have asked NICE when we will be told the outcome but they do not know.
In short NICE will not tell us when they will tell us. So watch this space.
There are two likely results of the appeal:
- The NICE Guidance Executive tells the NICE drugs appraisal committee to reconsider the evidence. The timetable on when they would come to a decision is unclear.
- NICE do not make any changes, or only small changes, to their guidance and publish it for the NHS to use. If this happens we will be very unhappy.
