Philip Williams 5,000 mile charity walk round the British coastline continues
Published 4 November 2010
Can you smell the sea? Well Philip Williams has been drawing deeply on the sea and salt as he has just accomplished part of his amazing walk around the coast line of Britain.
Philip has just finished the South
West Coastal Path from Poole to Minehead, 630 miles walking amongst breath taking scenery and climbing over 115,000 feet of ascent - four times the height of Mount Everest.
In a bid to raise an amazing £100,000 for Alzheimer's Society Philip has secured nearly £27,000 which puts him ahead of the fundraising schedule but he still needs all the support and help we can muster for him. You can keep up to date with Philip's fundraising by taking a look at his online sponsorship page on Justgiving, or by following him on twitter.
Walking the coastline of Britain is not only a huge achievement but also stunning because Philip is completely self-funded. Combining this walk with a job is no easy thing and our hats go off to him. As if walking a minimum of 6000 miles wasn't enough for this man, he's making magic for people affected by dementia, not least his mum.
Unfortunately for Philip this challenge is no walk in the park and in September he sustained injuries to his back and leg which forced a delay. Not to be thwarted and after some excellent care, Philip picked up his backpack and completed the last stage of the first part of his mammoth walk. Hurrah! Fingers crossed that the rest of the walk is injury free.

Alzheimer's Society would like to thank Philip for his continued support and wish him well on the next leg of his journey.
