Dementia with Lewy Bodies featured in Eden Project Play

Published 2 November 2010

The Eden Project’s rainforest biome will be the beautiful backdrop to a new theatre production about dementia.

Simon Turley's play 'State of Nature' will be performed at the tourist attraction in Cornwall between 17 and 25 November. The play explores dementia with Lewy Bodies and its effect on memory through the character of Patrick, who is reminiscing about his time in India as a young man in the 1960s.

Mr Turley's personal experience of dementia with Lewy Bodies inspired the writing of the play, which he describes as being about 'loss of memory and, ultimately, loss of identity.'

He says,

'Like the majority of people I can point to cases of dementia in my own family, my grandmother, and, much more recently, her son, my uncle. He died of dementia with Lewy Bodies. This condition shares several symptoms with Parkinson's disease, as well as having the vivid hallucinations and persistent misappropriations of other dementias.'

The play is being produced by Theatrescience and will take place between 1.30 and 2.30pm except on Monday 22 November. Entry is £5 for people living in Cornwall and Devon, and £10 for all others. To buy tickets you can contact the Eden Project box office on 01726 811972.
