Roll up to meet our researchers

Alzheimer’s Society’s research team are hitting the road to host a series of events across the UK.
From November 2010 to April 2011 the Society's research team will be hosting a series of open events in London, Newcastle, Wrexham, Belfast, Bristol and Southampton. The Society currently invests over £6 million in dementia research.
Encouraging people to attend, Head of Research Dr Susanne Sorensen said,
'Please come along to hear the latest about our research. You can hear a progress report directly from a researcher and find out more about how you could become involved in selecting and monitoring the research that we fund.'
The first event will be in Newcastle on Thursday 25 November at St James's United Reformed Church, Northumberland Road. Dr Elizabeta Mukaetova-Ladinska will be talking about her research into diagnosing dementia accurately at an early stage by measuring blood proteins.
Then the research roadshow will roll onto Wrexham on Thursday 9 December when Dr Linda Clare will share the results of her research into cognitive rehabilitation, an effective approach to improving quality of life for people with dementia.
The Society's research programme involves a unique collaboration between researchers and people with dementia, carers and ex-carers. This ensures that the Society's research projects address the real needs and concerns of people with dementia and their carers.
Barbara Woodward-Carlton, a research volunteer who lives in the North East and cared for her mother who had Alzheimer's disease, said,
'I've been involved with the Society's lay review research group since 1999. What we bring is very practical expertise, you begin to think yes that would work or no that wouldn't and the researchers really do appreciate our contribution.'
Barbara has put the knowledge that she gained from being a carer to good use by commenting on how research projects are designed.
