Philip Williams is walking 5,000 miles round the British coastline to support Alzheimer's Society

One of our fantastic supporters Philip Williams is facing the challenge of a lifetime.
In tribute to his mum who is living with dementia, Philip is walking the coastline of Britain in a bid to raise £100,000 for Alzheimer's Society.
'My mother Margaret has Alzheimer's. A mother of five, and a successful business woman, we noticed a change in her over a couple of years before she was diagnosed with the condition. Now, at the age of 84, she is happy and well cared for in a nursing home, and we are all so grateful for the love and support that she has been given by both live in carers and the staff at her care home. She is one of the main reasons why I am walking round the coastline of Britain to raise money for Alzheimer's Society.'
What else is Philip doing on his challenge?
'As I go round, I will be stopping to meet and talk to people who live along the coast. Some are known to the local community, others will be known to many of us. Some of these characters have been affected either directly or indirectly by Alzheimer's or dementia. I want to hear their stories and with their permission, I would like to share them with you.
At the moment, I am walking round the coast in sections. A couple of days here, a few days there; then later on I will be walking non-stop. When I finish each section, I mark the precise point where I stopped, and head back to my part-time job as I need to earn money to fund the walk. Then I return to the exact spot on the path and continue where I left off.'
