A team of victorious cyclists from KPMG have completed the final leg of a 1,500 mile relay in aid of Alzheimer's Society, crossing the finish line in Canary Wharf yesterday.
The finale, held outside KPMG's head office in Canada Square, marked the completion of the Big Blue Bike Ride. The relay challenge was taken on by over 250 staff and their families, plus alumni and clients, who joined team mates at various points during the course across the UK.
Alzheimer's Society celebrity supporter Nina Hossain said
'Today saw the completion of 13 days of cycling up and down the country, to help people with dementia and their carers. It was an honour to cheer the cyclists home and present them with their well-earned medals to reward them for such a wonderful fundraising effort for Alzheimer's Society.
Jo Swinhoe, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Alzheimer's Society, said:
'Everyone at Alzheimer's Society would like to say a big thank you to every single cyclist who has taken part in the Big Blue Bike Ride and helped make the event such a fabulous success. Alzheimer's Society relies on donations to continue its vital work. The support of organisations like KPMG helps support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.'
Richard Reid, London Chairman of KPMG said:
'We are extremely proud to have conquered the Big Blue Bike Ride, which offered our intrepid cyclists a great personal challenge as well as an important aim - to raise funds for Alzheimer's Society. Dementia gradually robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families. We are so glad to be able to help make a real difference to those affected.'
The Big Blue Bike Ride was formed of two routes which both led to Canada Square - one route started in Aberdeen on May 28, and one began in Plymouth on June 3.
