Riding to Santiago di Compostela in memory of mum
Published 1 July 2007
Ann Bishop, from Essex, will step back in time on Saturday 14 July 2007 as she travels by horse and cart along a medieval pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
Riding in memory of her mother, Anne is aiming to raise £10,000 for a 2-part workshop for family carers to explore living with dementia.
Ann will travel over 1300 miles spanning England, France and Spain to reach her destination in the North West of Spain. She hopes that through her journey will help raise awareness of the work, support and research of the Alzheimer's Society.
Ann says:
'Some say I am mad, crazy. Some on the other hand say - WOW brilliant, fantastic! Go for it! What an adventure! And what a great idea! I am doing this in memory of my mother, but also for all the other families and individuals who have experienced the very distressing time of having to cope with this illness.'
Jo Swinhoe, director of fundraising at the Alzheimer's Society, said:
'We are delighted that Ann is taking on such an adventurous challenge for us in order to raise much needed cash for the Society. On behalf of the 700,000 people in the UK who live with dementia, their families, friends and carers, we would like to say an enormous thank you. We wish Ann every success with her trek and urge everyone to support her in her fundraising efforts.'
