Alzheimer's Society team ahead of the pack in Bupa Manchester Run

Alzheimer’s Society supporters Richard McCourt and Sophie Mei took the lead in the celebrity wave of the Bupa Great Manchester Run on Sunday 16 May.
Actors Samantha Giles and Chris Gascoyne - who ran with his wife Caroline - and singer Rick Guard completed the celebrity team and took part along with 35,000 people, over 2,000 of which were running in support of Alzheimer's Society, many running in honour of loved ones they've lost to dementia.
Singer and Alzheimer's Society supporter Rick Guard, whose mum died with Alzheimer's disease, completed the run in 45 minutes. Afterwards he said,
'Hopefully my mum will feel proud.'
Local celebrity Sophie became involved with Alzheimer's Society quite recently. She said,
'I was surprised at the lack of awareness around dementia, especially because I know so many people who are affected by it. I've seen families dealing with it and I wanted to do something positive.'
Delighted to have finished within an hour, she added,
'It was an amazing feeling to come across the finishing line. The run has been a personal journey for me and it is a great achievement. It has also been lovely to have some great support from the Alzheimer's Society.'
Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne had never run before, but declared afterwards that he had thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He said,
'It's a marvellous atmosphere and we've had a fantastic day. If my taking part can help Alzheimer's Society in some small way, then I'd be delighted to come back and do it again next year'
