LV= IT team tackle the 3 Peaks Challenge
Published 15 April 2010
Towards the end of 2009 a group of people within the IT team at LV= decided that they wanted to do a challenge during the following year, with the aims of raising money for charity and getting fit!
The 3 Peaks Challenge was selected, which involves climbing the three highest mountains in the UK (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) within 24 hours. The distance walked will be 25 miles, the height climbed is around 10,000 feet, and the distance to be covered between the mountains is some 450 miles. They will be tackling the 3 Peaks at the end of May, allowing them sufficient time for training and for temperatures to warm up!
The group have selected 2 charities to support, Alzheimer's Society and Cancer Research UK and plan to raise a total of £10,000, including LV= charity matching. These charities were chosen as a number of the team have been touched by these causes in recent months.
Training is already well underway with the group taking every opportunity to scale stairs, hills and mountains in the local area and beyond. Recent training camps have been held in the Breacon Beacons and Scafell Pike, with further camps due to be held in Snowdon and Ben Nevis in the run up to the event itself.
