The Charlie Crowe Scanner appeal - helping to detect early signs of Alzheimer's
Published 23 March 2010
Charlie Crowe was the last surviving member of Newcastle United's 1951 FA Cup winning team and passed away at the end of February with Alzheimer's disease.
His daughter, Lesley set up The Charlie Crowe Appeal to raise money for a scanner to detect early signs of the disease.
Charlie was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1998 and until last year was speaking at meetings and active as a staunch supporter of NUFC. The scanner will let the scientists at the Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre
carry out a wider range of scans and learn more about what happens in the brain of an Alzheimer's patient.
