Our online forum celebrates its 7th birthday and reaches the 10,000 member

Published 11 March 2010

In February Talking Point officially passed the 10,000 members mark. The online discussion forum will also be celebrating its seventh birthday at the end of March.

Managed by the Society's Knowledge team and supported by a small group of dedicated volunteers, Talking Point provides online support for anyone affected by dementia, and is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

The forum provides peer support to its users, for whom other forms of support often do not reach or exist. Woman with reassuring hand on man's back

Talking Point's members explain what the forum, known affectionately as 'TP', means to them:

'Talking Point provides me with much needed support, comfort and even fun. I don't like the idea of going to a support group but TP gives me the chance to be part of one on my own terms.'

'Much comfort can be found here - just knowing you are not alone and that there are people just like you waiting to lift you up when you feel low helps tremendously.'

'Talking Point was a great discovery for me to find just after my mum's diagnosis. It has been great to get feedback from other people, as well as having the opportunity to help others. Reading some of the more distressing posts can be heart breaking as I recognise similar traits in my own mother, but helps me to prepare for some of the things that may happen in the future.'

'To me, Talking Point is like a community centre that is accessible 24/7.'
