The forecast couldn't be hotter for cricket this year as star astrologer and Alzheimer's Society Ambassador Russell Grant today pledged £1, 000 to find the UK's hottest 20/20 cricket club.
The £1000 up for grabs from http://www.russellgrant.com/ will be presented to the winner of the Sportswise UK20's, a Twenty/20 charity cricket competition supporting the Alzheimer's Society. The competition is open to clubs across the UK and registration is open now.
For the first time ever, teams will receive a chance to reach stardom on Star Cricket Television, a new television station that will cover the tournament. The final will also be played at Uxbridge CC the ground of Middlesex County Cricket Club.
Russell Grant says,
'This year's not-for-profit tournament is a must for every UK club this year. It is fast, but friendly. Most importantly, entering will also help the two official charities - Alzheimer's Society and WISE (Wales Ireland Scotland England) Cricket For All campaign. Teams have to be in it to win it though and we need more local teams. It only takes three local teams to ensure the winner gets to a regional playoff before the final on 16th September 2007.
'Star Cricket Television, will make the tournament really exciting. Clubs will be given exclusive advice on how they can star on air. Matches can be rewatched, viewed on your mobile and seen around the world. We've even had a couple of Dutch and one Spanish team ask to play!'
Neil Hunt, chief executive of the Alzheimer's Society says,
'What better way to help people with dementia than by entering this great cricket competition? We're thrilled to be a beneficiary of the UK20's. The competition costs just £30 for each club to enter and all profits will go to the two worthwhile charities.'
