Actress Angela Lonsdale hosts spring ball in aid of Alzheimer's Society

Soap star and former Coronation Street actress, Angela Lonsdale, invites you to join her and her celebrity friends for a spectacular evening of entertainment and dancing.
Angela will be hosting the 'Dancing in the Streets' themed spring ball in The Palace Hotel's Grand Ball Room, Manchester on Saturday 24 April 2010 to raise funds and awareness for a cause close to her heart, having lost her mum, Yvonne, to Alzheimer's disease in 2007.
Angela said,
It will be a spectacular evening of dancing, live music, and the chance to win unique prizes at the live auction and raffles.'The best thing that ever happened in my career was getting my part in Corrie - but Mum never knew. So the worst thing also happened to me at the same time - I lost my Mum as I knew her.
It started off with her being forgetful, then one day she said, out of the blue, 'I don't know how to write any more.'
Mum had worked as a carer for people with Alzheimer's disease herself, so she knew what was happening to her. Within a year, she was in a care home.
The first time I saw her in there, I fell to my knees and completely broke down. Mum didn't recognise me or my sister when we went to see her.
It's a living bereavement - that's the only way I can describe it. To be honest, there was relief when she finally died. I had prayed it would be over for her.
Although it's still painful, I'm speaking out about Mum's condition because I want to help others with Alzheimer's disease and all forms of dementia and raise awareness, for my Mum's sake and for all those other people who will be affected by this cruel condition in the future.'
Tickets for the ball are priced at £80 with a range of packages available for tables of 10. Dancing in the Streets is sure to be a sell out so book early to avoid disappointment. We guarantee you'll be dancing all night long!
