Neil Hunt, Chief Executive, Alzheimer's Society said,

'One in three people over 65 will die with dementia, the aim of this partnership with Bupa is to jointly seek new, beneficial initiatives for people with dementia and their carers.

As the leaders in the fight against dementia Alzheimer's Society is committed to a vision of a radically improved world for people with dementia but we can't do this alone, this partnership with Bupa will offer opportunities to learn, raise the bar in dementia care, and take this vision forward.'

Bupa Care Homes is the largest provider of specialist care for people with dementia.  Closer working with the Alzheimer's Society will help deliver best practice through the introduction of essential integrated programmes and the two organisations plan to develop several major new projects together. The first initiative has already taken place with the launch of the Dementia Champions programme across 130 specialist Bupa care homes.

Alzheimer's Society is also the nominated charity for the Bupa Great Run Series helping to raise a target of £1million in 2009 towards fighting the disease.
