British Motorcycle Preservation Society members raise a fantastic £1273.44 for Alzheimer's Society

Published 1 October 2009

A huge thank you to the British Motorcycle Preservation Society members for raising a fantastic £1273.44 for the Alzheimer's Society during the last twelve months.

Motorbike enthusiast Fred Austin decided to take his "Shuttleworth Snap" replica over to the Isle of Man and ride it around the 37 and 3/4 mile TT circuit whilst raising sponsorship money for Alzheimer's Society. Fred was supported by his fellow bike enthusiasts Alan Coates, Barry Hughes and other members of BMPS (British Motorcycle Preservation Society).

The original Shuttleworth Snap was featured in the 1934 George Formby film "No Limit", Fred's replica is built around a 1962 BSA C15 and is not an easy machine to ride.

Barry Hughes, another member of the BMPS decided to accompany Fred on the trip (Barry rode his 1973 Triumph Trident-a much more sensible machine to take around the island). The group then proceeded to collect at various motorcycle shows around the north of England and also at the club's "Heavy Rock Night".

A real bonus came when Fred was asked by Peter Kelly (photographer for various classic motorcycle magazines) to take the "Shuttleworth Snap" along to his retirement/birthday celebration. Peter passed a hat around and raised quite a considerable amount of money for the Society.
