After more than a year of planning, training and fundraising, with 12 days of cycling from Lands End to John-O-Groats the team handed over cheques totaling £22,504.
The local LEJOG 2009 challenge ended on Sunday with a final party held in Silverstone at which cheques were presented to both Alzheimer's Society and MacMillan Cancer Support.
After more than a year of planning, training and fundraising, with 12 days of cycling from Lands End to John-O-Groats the team handed over cheques totaling £22,504.
Team leader Tony McMurray said
'The team wanted today's party to draw a line under this year's challenge, and also give us an opportunity to thank all those who supported us over the past year.'
The party was held at the Silverstone Recreation Centre and involved a barbecue, a final raffle and Silverstone based band 'Off The Record' who chose to donate their services for free on the day.
Tony's wife Sharon, who with her mother Lyn acted as support crew during the challenge added,
'The final total announced at the party surpassed all our expectations. The hundreds of photographs that were projected up onto a big screen and the professional video of the trip created by Stuart and his father brought back such fond memories that will live with us all forever.'
Let's see what 2010 will bring.
