Stars put the spotlight on dementia

Actors Pauline Fleming (Coronation Street) and Arnold Peters (BBC Radio 4’s The Archers) will join thousands of people on the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walks.
The Memory Walks are taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland on Sunday 24 September to mark World Alzheimer's Day (September 21).
Pauline Fleming, better known as Penny King from Coronation Street, who supported Mike Baldwin during his heartbreaking demise from Alzheimer's disease and BBC Radio 4 Archers actor, Arnold Peters, whose character Jack Woolley is currently living with dementia, have been so touched by their storylines that they're putting on their walking shoes to help raise awareness of this devastating condition.
Pauline Fleming who will be starting off a Memory Walk in East Cheshire said,
'Coronation Street gave me a glimpse of how Alzheimer's disease can have a devastating affect not just on the person with dementia but on the whole family. I encourage everyone to take part, it should be a really fun day out and a chance to make a difference at the same time too.'
Arnold Peters who will be starting off the Kettering Memory Walk said,
'Jack Woolley was a very sharp-minded businessman who has now realised he can't cope with all the business deals he once used to. My brother in law died of Alzheimer's disease so I know how devastating this condition can be for the 750,000 people in the UK who have dementia and their families. That's why I'm supporting the Alzheimer's Society by taking part in the Memory Walk. Come and join me in Kettering or one of the other 250 walks taking place and help make a difference.'
From walks along some of the best coastlines and most beautiful national parks to strolls through serene woodland, there are hundreds of accessible Memory Walks suitable for the whole family taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
For the first time this year people can organise their own sponsored Memory Walks with family and friends. Everyone who registers will receive a free pack with posters, sponsorship forms and fundraising tips.
