The third annual UK's Older People's Day takes place this year on Thursday 1 October 2009 under the 'Full of Life' banner.

The third annual UK's Older People's Day takes place this year on Thursday 1 October 2009 under the 'Full of Life' banner. The day aims to raise the profile of the issues surrounding older people and our ageing society with a focus on celebrating and highlighting the contribution older people make. It aims to tackle negative attitudes and stereotypes by bringing different generations together to promote a positive view of later life.

Supporting Older People's Day
The Alzheimer's Society is supporting Older People's Day and encouraging members to celebrate the day by supporting events and activities that will bring together people of different ages and backgrounds across the country.

Spread the word
If you are planning to attend or host an event to celebrate Older People's Day, the Full of Life team would love to hear about it. Whether you're attending a private tea party, a village quiz night or an open day, there is a simple form to let them know available via www.direct.gov.uk/fulloflife.

In addition, if an event is open to the public, it can also be publicised on an interactive map on the Full of Life pages on the Directgov website. The map will be regularly updated in the run up to Older People's Day on 1 October and will allow members of the public to see what events are planned in their area.

This is a perfect opportunity to work with partners in your area who might be planning Full of Life events and activities and publicise Alzheimer's Society public awareness campaigns such as 'Worried About your Memory'.

For more information on Older Peoples Day see the Full of Life website at: an event you can visit www.dwp.gov.uk/fulloflife  and download an events toolkit.
