Comic star swaps joking for jogging for the Alzheimer's Society

Published 13 November 2007

Stand up Jo Brand is hoping to have the last laugh this Sunday as she pounds the paths of Hyde Park in the Hydroactive Women's Challenge to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.

Jo is best known for her comic flair and perfect timing but she is deadly serious about supporting the Alzheimer's Society, having seen the devastating effect of dementia first hand.

Jo Brand says,

'People always think it's hilarious when I say am going to be running in a race - I don't know why- but I'll have the last laugh when I come stomping home in front of Paula Radcliffe.

'On a serious note, whilst working as a psychiatric nurse I saw how devastating dementia can be for the whole family. Caring for a friend or family member with Alzheimer's disease is no joke. That's why this is the second year that I am running for the Alzheimer's Society.'

Jo will be joining 260 other women running in races in London, Liverpool and Birmingham to help people affected by dementia.

Former Coronation Street star Pauline Fleming (Penny King) is running in the Liverpool race for the Alzheimer's Society.
