Liverpudlian actor Pauline Fleming has swapped the cobbled streets of Weatherfield to pound the paths of Sefton Park in the Hydroactive Women’s Challenge on Sunday 3 September.
The former Coronation Street star has signed up to run in the 5k race to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society after being inspired by the heartbreaking storyline of soap legend Mike Baldwin's decline from the disease earlier in the year.
Pauline, who played Mike's partner Penny King, will join over 630 women running in three races across the country to help those affected by dementia. She will be racing her daughter and four of her friends and is determined to cross the finish line first.
Pauline says,
'I'm looking forward to a great girly day out and hope to raise lots of money for a very important cause. During the Alzheimer's storyline in Coronation Street, I saw how distressing caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease can be and how many real life 'Mike and Penny's' there are. I was lucky, my experience of Alzheimer's disease was just a story, but for thousands of people across the UK it is very very real.'
