Dick’s in la French Bungalow for the Alzheimer’s Society

Published 1 August 2006

Bafta award-winning children’s presenter Richard McCourt (Dick of Dick and Dom fame) is proving he’s no big kid.

The star of BBC television's Dick and Dom in da Bungalow has announced today he will cycle over 285miles from London to Paris on August 30th to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.

Speaking for the first time about his planned trip, Richard says,

'I love cycling, travelling and exploring. This year I wanted to take part in a challenge for charity. I had heard about the London to Paris Bike ride and saw it as a great opportunity to stretch myself while helping an important cause.

'As a family member is affected by dementia, I know from first hand experience how the Society supports others with the disease and their carers by providing information, advice and funding research into a cure for this devastating condition.

'I've had a lot of help and support so far with this trip. Evans Cycles have donated one of their latest bikes for the journey that I'm relying on to support me through all the way to the Eiffel Tower! Friends and family have also been very generous and sponsored me. I've been in serious training around the parks of Manchester where I live. 4 days in the saddle and cycling up to 80miles a day - this certainly isn't child's play!'
