Roger McGough performs for people with dementia
Published 8 July 2009
One of Britain’s best known poets, Roger McGough, has delivered a filmed reading of a new poem to be released exclusively on the Alzheimer’s Society website.
Roger, a firm supporter of Alzheimer's Society, is renowned for performing his poems and hopes to reach out to people with this online recital.
Roger says,
'I'm always happy to do anything I can to raise awareness of dementia and help people understand the impact of the condition. This was a heartfelt poem and I hope it will prompt thought and conversation. Getting people talking is really important if we are to reduce stigma and finally bring dementia out of the shadows.
Roger received the OBE for his services to poetry in 1997, a CBE in 2005 and was honoured with the Freedom of the City of Liverpool in 2001. To hear the famous poet's version of 'A Fine Romance' just click play below.
