Midsummer magic at the Marsh Ball
Published 1 August 2006
Celebrities, tennis stars and the great and the good rubbed shoulders at the Marsh Midsummer Ball on Friday 23 June at London’s Hurlingham Club.
The Ball was the culmination of the 8th Marsh Classis tennis tournament, a week-long event, now synonymous with tennis veterans such as Henri Leconte, Mats Vilander and Jeremy Bates.
Supporting the Alzheimer's Society were Britt Ekland, and Russell Grant, who brought along his entire team from ITV's Celebrity Fit Club, comprising of Micky Quinn, Jaine, Mykyla Dodd, Sharon Marshall and Carole Malone.
Guests were also invited to bid for some marvellous auction prizes:
- a tour of the Coronation Street set for four people - a money-can't-buy prize for all devoted Corrie fans as it is normally closed to the general public
- a signed England Wayne Rooney shirt
- a week-long stay at the Chateau De Rochebonne in the seaside area between Bordeaux and La Rochelle
- a tour for 2 adults to see GMTV being filmed and produced
- beers and a chat with Jo Brand for four after one of the comedian's tours in Spring 2007
- 2 tickets to see the multi-award winning series of The Catherine Tate Show being filmed and tickets to the after series party
- a day out for 20 people at Chessington World of Adventure, hosted by award-winning BBC children's presenters Dic and Dom
- a personalised horoscope from Russell Grant and a stable tour and breakfast hosted by Micky Quinn at his professional training yard in Newmarket.
Over 300 invited guests danced well into the early hours of Saturday morning in the exclusive environs of the extremely plush Hurlingham Club in the parklands of Fulham, West London.
Other tennis veterans in attendance were Mansour Bahrami, Ross Case, Tom Gulikson, Andres Jarryd, Johan Kriek, Peter McNamara, Thomas Muster, Ilie Nastase, Mikael Pernfors, Cedric Pioline and Chris Wilkinson.
