Jockey to walk the line for Alzheimer's Society
Published 7 May 2009
Richard Dunwoody, one of Britain’s most successful and well known jockeys, will this month set off on his adventures to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society and a number of other charities.
Richard will follow in the footsteps of Captain Barclay who first undertook the challenge on the same road 200 years ago in 1809. Captain Barclay was challenged that he could not walk 1,000 miles in 1,000 hours for 1,000 Guineas - he completed his adventure on 12 July 1809.
Richard says:
'My South Pole expedition last year was tough, but this might take it to a completely different level! It will take Richard 42 days and nights with limited sleep, but celebrities and fans along the way will join him.
42 days with very little sleep could drive me to breaking point, but we've set ourselves an ambitious fund-raising target…and that's what this challenge is about.'
Good luck Richard!
