Nelson leads the battle against Alzheimer's!

Published 13 November 2007

Aged nine years, Ashley Blakeley from North Baddesley decided that the Festival of Christmas at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard would provide a fantastic opportunity to raise funds for the Society.

Ashley's hero is Horatio Nelson and so in keeping with the nautical theme of the event, he thought it would be a great idea to collect for the Society dressed as Nelson.

With his collection tin in hand, Ashley was determined to raise as much as possible. He had hoped to raise about £100 over the weekend so you can imagine how pleased he was when the first day's total alone came to over £150!

The total raised by Ashley for the whole weekend amounted to a fantastic £463.23!

Ashley says,

'I am very pleased that I have done something very worthwhile to remember Granddad Henry. I am also very grateful to the hundreds of people who kindly donated.'

Ashley was raising funds in memory of his granddad Henry who lived with Alzheimer's disease and sadly passed away 6 years ago.
