New Alzheimer's drug research
Published 14 April 2009
New research suggests that the drug CPHPC successfully interferes with the build up of Amyloid in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s and does not have side effects.
'A key characteristic of Alzheimer's disease is the clumping together of proteins in the brain. It's very exciting that this drug could potentially interfere with this process, but it's too early to say how much it will benefit people with the disease.Dr Susanne SorensenThis research is an important step forward because it shows the drug is safe to use in people with Alzheimer's. It provides a green flag for longer and larger studies to investigate if this drug can treat the symptoms, or even slow the progression of this devastating disease. One million people will develop dementia in the next 10 years. We must act now to improve care for today and find a cure for tomorrow.'
