Prospective MP makes a splash for Alzheimer's Society

Published 19 January 2009

Robert Halfon (prospective parliamentary candidate (PPS) for Harlow, Nazeing, Roydon and Sheering) has arranged to do a second sponsored swim in aid of our Harlow branch.

Robert first completed a sponsored swim in 2007 and raised over £3,000 to support the work of the Society at that time. He is hopeful that he can have a similar success when he swims again this Saturday 24 January 2009, at the Park Inn in Harlow.Robert Halfon

Robert said,

I am delighted to do my second sponsored swim for the Harlow Branch of the Alzheimer's Society.

I aim to raise much needed funds that will help them to continue to support local Harlow people who have dementia and, of course, their carers. My personal aim is also to shed a few of the pounds that I gained over the festive season when I enjoyed my helping of Christmas pudding!

Notwithstanding the "credit crunch" I hope that people will dig deep into their pockets to support this very worthy cause. Undoubtedly without the work that the Alzheimer's Society does in Harlow the lives of many local people would suffer and I want to do all that I can to support and to thank them for their valued efforts.'

Gordon Younger (Chairman of the Harlow Branch of Alzheimer's Society) said,

'I cannot thank Robert enough for the generosity of his support through the undertaking of a sponsored swim again this year. As with all charities we face a continuous challenge to "balance the books" and the funds that Robert raises will help us to achieve that in 2009.'

Marion Howell (Branch Manager) added,

'Currently we support over 320 people with dementia and 325 carers who live in Harlow, through our 'outreach and the rest a while services' and we do all that we can to help them and their carers to maintain their quality of life. The support we offer is unique within the town and enables people to remain in their homes for as long as is practical.'
