Biggest team ever in the Bupa Great North Run
Published 10 October 2008
Thank you to all 680 Alzheimer's Society runners who took to the streets and clocked up 13.1 miles to complete the Bupa Great North Run 2008.
The sun shone down on Newcastle, and it was a fantastic day for runners and supporters alike as over 52,000 runners lined up at the start line for what is now the largest race in the world. The Stampeder Team were cheered on by enthusiastic staff, volunteers and cheerleaders at the Alzheimer's Society cheering point on route, spurring them on to the finish line.Afterwards runners joined Alzheimer's Society staff and volunteers for a post-race party in the charity village, and enjoyed a much-deserved cup of tea and sandwiches. Lucy Toller from the Society's events team said;
'It was so fantastic to congratulate so many runners in person, and there was a real team spirit in the Alzheimer's Society marquee. We are so very proud of all the Stampeders, and very grateful for all the hard work they have put into training, fundraising and running on Sunday.'The team is expected to raise over £200,000 to help Alzheimer's Society support people with dementia and their carers.
Details of how to secure a place in 2009 will be available in December.
