Celebrate UK Older People's Day on 1 October
Published 22 September 2008
The second UK Older People’s Day on 1 October 2008, under the ‘Full of Life banner’ aims to challenge outdated stereotypes.
The event celebrates later life and the huge, positive contribution older people make to their communities.
Following the success of the first Older People's Day in 2007, this year is set to be even bigger and better. The day raises awareness that older age, with all its challenges, is just as fulfilling and exciting as being young.
This year's theme is all about bringing older and younger people together to strengthen local neighbourhoods and create better understanding. It's an opportunity to get to know your neighbours and create new ties with people of different ages who live around you.
Alzheimer's Society is supporting Older People's Day and encouraging members and local branches to get involved. To find out about events going on in your area please visit www.direct.gov.uk/fulloflife.
Host your own celebration
Organising your own event is a great way to celebrate the achievements of your local branch and there is lots of support available.
