Information about the Worried about your memory campaign
Published 6 June 2008
Alzheimer’s Society’s 'Worried about your memory?' (WAYM) campaign is an early diagnosis awareness raising campaign aimed at encouraging people concerned about memory problems to seek help.
One in three people over 65 will die with dementia, yet up to two thirds of people with dementia never receive a formal diagnosis.
Early diagnosis of dementia is crucial; it means people can access the services and support they need. People with dementia and their families often say that finding out about the problem was the start of getting back in control.
The WAYM? campaign aims to raise awareness of dementia and its symptoms, and encourage people to seek help. In 2007, Alzheimer's Society piloted the campaign in 4,000 GP practices in the East of England, and in 2008 it will be rolled out to every GP practice in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Every GP practice will receive a campaign pack. This will include an educational CD-Rom about dementia, leaflets and posters to be displayed in waiting areas. People who request further information after reading the leaflet will be sent a more detailed information booklet about dementia.

GP practices in England should receive their first campaign pack of materials by mid-June, and practices in Wales and Northern Ireland will receive materials by mid-July. All practices will automatically receive further stocks of materials at intervals throughout the 12 month campaign.
