Study into feline form of Alzheimer's disease

Published 13 November 2007

Alzheimer’s Society comment on research into the mental deterioration of ageing cats.

'It is interesting to learn that cats develop the proteins seen in Alzheimer's disease as they get older. The discovery of the presence of the protein seen in tangles associated with Alzheimer's disease may have significant implications for this type of veterinary treatment.

There is increasing evidence that dogs may also develop signs of Alzheimer's disease and this research could go some way to benefiting the treatment of ageing pets.'
