New gene identified for fronto-temporal dementia

The Alzheimer’s Society comment on the study published in Nature by two teams led by Christine Van Broeckhoven and Mike Hutton.
'This discovery will have a major impact on our understanding of fronto-temporal dementia. It is extremely significant, as it will pave the way for new targets or treatments and potential cures for this devastating condition.
It is the first new major dementia gene identified this decade and may have relevance for all types of dementia. This gene probably plays an important role in sustaining nerves in the brain. More research is now urgently needed to understand the role this gene plays.'
