A toe-tapping £1,350.50 is raised by Alzheimer's Society supporter in Foyle

Published 7 December 2012

A big thank you to Ingrid and Margaret from Foyle for their successful Ceili Night fundraiser on Saturday 24 November at St Anne’s Hall, Greysteel.

The Community Fundraising Team in Northern Ireland are delighted to hear that Ingrid and Margaret’s event of dancing and singing raised a toe tapping £1,350.50 for Alzheimer’s Society. On the night Michael McIvor, Foyle Dementia Support Worker also gave an awareness raising presentation to help bring meaning to the fundraiser.

Ingrid says:

'I am delighted with the evening; it was lovely seeing everyone enjoy themselves and raising awareness about Alzheimer's.'

'On Saturday afternoon I got a call at the house from a brother of the three priests. I had written to them asking for their support and very kindly they donated a t-shirt, a scarf, a signed book and £100. I am so touched by this act of kindness and the local community.'

'On the night Zoe Kyte, the UK's No 1 Acro dancer performed two spectacular dances, a modern and an Acro. She had the audience gasping and clapping in awe throughout her performances. The Hamilton Flute Band from Londonderry performed three pieces and the Irish Ceili Band was performed by Eamon Armstrong. The Scottish Ceili was courtesy of Ken and Linda McLean, this is the third time they have supported me completely free of charge. Even Jacqueline a carer from the Foyle Carer Support Group was moved to support the event by contacting local business for raffle prizes on the Society’s and my behalf.'

'The highlight of the night was Tillie, who at 81 years young sang a hilarious song, unaccompanied and had everyone in stitches.'

Prior to this event Ingrid had already held a Zumba-a-thon fundraiser in Derry and raised an energetic £520.00 with her class members. Her and Margaret’s next venture is to support a ‘not so strictly come dancing’ event organised by Frankie, Foyle Carer Support Group member - more details TBC.

If you would like to get involved in fundraising in your local area we have lots of ideas for fundraising individually or there are many events that you can sign up to. All funds raised will go towards supporting Alzheimer's Society fulfil our ambition of a world without dementia.
