To coincide with the release of the Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit, Alzheimer’s Society is auctioning a number of photos, posters and other memorabilia, signed by actor Andy Serkis.

Andy plays the character of Gollum in the original trilogy and the new prequel.

The autographed items could make the perfect Christmas present for any Middle-earth fans, and are being auctioned on eBay to raise money in the fight against dementia.

Andy said:

'800,000 people in the UK have dementia with many thousands caring for them. It's a condition that will touch all our lives at some time so I'm pleased to donate these items of film memorabilia to raise vitals funds for Alzheimer's Society.

'The money raised will contribute to the fantastic work they do to support people living with dementia today as well as help fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.'

Andy has also kindly donated his famous dressing gown worn playing the role of Ian Dury in 2010 biopic 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll'.

If you know any film fans and would like to make their Christmas extra special with these once-in-a-lifetime presents, take a look at the items on eBay. Bidding will start on Friday 7 December 2012 and end on Sunday 16 December.

All proceeds are being donated to Alzheimer's Society and there is free postage on all items to UK, Europe and the US. Andy donated the items as part of actress Ruta Gedmintas fundraising drive for Alzheimer’s Society through money-can’t-buy memorabilia.
