People who have had a stroke are at an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease

Alzheimer’s Society comment on research by Mayeux et al published in Archives of Neurology, Vol 60, December 2003.
'This research by Mayeux et al confirms the existance associations between stroke and Alzheimer's disease, which have also been shown in other published research. This research provides further evidence of links between Alzheimer's disease and stroke.
It also underlines the potential for preventative approaches towards stroke and vascular disease, which could minimise the incidence of Alzheimer's disease. The approaches include limiting the amount of salt and saturated fat we eat.'
