Hanham Riders raise almost £3,000 for Alzheimer's Society

A committed group of cyclists known as the 'Hanham Riders' have raised £2,945 for Alzheimer's Society in 2012 from a combination of cycling events and collections in and around Bristol.
A selection of the riders presented a cheque to Community Fundraiser Rachael Sweet on the evening of Friday 30 November, wearing their t-shirts with pride.
The main fundraising event took place on Sunday 24 June as 42 riders cycled a circular route of 35 miles which started from Bitton Railway Station and took in Castle Park and Bath along the way. Despite clouds early on in the day, the weather cleared before the ride, and the day turned out to be a scorcher. Local footballers Cole Skuse, midfielder for Bristol City Football Club, and ex-Bristol City winger Howard Pritchard turned up to show their support on the day. Certificates were provided by Hanham Printers, Smiles Support Group from Chipping Sodbury supplied medals and six riders, and Café Bonjour donated money to support the ride.
Jeremy Smith, the leader of Hanham Riders, said:If you'd like to get involved in raising money to help people affected by dementia, get in touch with Rachael, your Community Fundraiser, on 0117 967 3032, or rachael.sweet@alzheimers.org.uk.'My father died with dementia last year so we really wanted to support Alzheimer's Society, who do great work to support people living with dementia, their family and carers. We’d like to thank our suppliers including Hanham Bakery, Woods Cycles and Brookers, but most importantly we’d like to praise the riders who took part and raised such a fantastic amount of money.'
