Unbelievable local support matched with great generosity catapults the money raised at Foyle Memory Walk 2012 to over £2,000.
The latest figures from the Foyle ‘organise you own’ Memory Walk that was held on Sunday 2 September has revealed that the volunteer fundraising group has surpassed last year’s total and raised an amazing £2,690.94. A massive thank you to Carol, Dawn, local businesses, Kevin Campbell the Mayor of Derry City and the generosity of the local community. Carol Hegarty, one of the walk’s organisers says;
'I was delighted at the turnout this year, it was the city's third Memory Walk and I have noticed a dramatic increase in numbers. I feel that the Memory Walk is a very important event not only in raising much needed funds for the society but also in raising awareness of the illness in a bid to remove the negative stigma attached to dementia in modern society.'
Big plans are in the pipeline to grow the walk next year so that the route takes in the Peace Bridge and Foyle Bridge. Please watch this space for more detail!
If you would like to get involved in fundraising in your local area we have lots of ideas for fundraising individually or there are many events that you can sign up to. All funds raised will go towards supporting Alzheimer's Society fulfill our ambition of a world without dementia.
