Members of Nizel’s Golf & Country Club in Hildenborough, Kent, chose Alzheimer's Society as their charity of the year and raised more than £25,000 to support people with dementia in their local area.

The magnificent total was revealed on Saturday 17 November, as the club captains - Trevor Pullen, Kate Chubb and Stuart Whitehead - presented a cheque to Alzheimer's Society.

Each captain organised a Charity Day tournament for the Men's, Women's and Seniors teams at the club, as well as holding other fundraising events throughout the year, including raffles and high-value prize auctions.

The teams (Captains) at Nizel's chose to support Alzheimer's Society this year, as dementia is an issue close to many of its members' hearts.

Trevor, 2012 Men's Captain, said,

'A considerable number of our member's related stories of how their families had been affected by dementia, and how valuable they found or would have found support whilst caring for their parents. All through the year, I've found that these thoughts have been at the forefront of so many members' generosity as we've gone about our fundraising efforts.'

Stuart, captain of the Seniors and Veterans Section, added:

'This was obviously a major factor in why we have raised a record amount for the Charity this year.'

There are currently 22,000 people with dementia in Kent and this number is expected to reach almost 30,000 within the next ten years.

Kate, 2012 Ladies' Captain, said:

'The disease is becoming more prevalent and is one of the challenges facing our generation. We hope, through our fundraising efforts, we have not only helped raise awareness of the disease, but highlighted the dire need for families caring for Alzheimer's sufferers to have better access to support systems within the community.'
