Former BBC South West radio and TV presenter, Ian Calvert, has generously transferred the rights of a song he penned and recorded in tribute to his deceased father-in-law, John Cramb,to the Society.
The song, released this week and entitled 'Never Will Forget', is a moving tribute, expressing the impact of dementia on his father-in-law and his family. Ian and Alzheimer's Society hope the record, which needs 10,000 downloads to reach the top five spot, will help raise vital funds and awareness.
Ian recorded 'Never Will Forget' with good friend, Roo McKellar who runs music production specialists, Heavenly Audio. All proceeds from the song will be donated to Alzheimer's Society.
Ian said:Alzheimer's Society's Chief Executive, Jeremy Hughes said:'I'll never forget seeing my father-in-law deteriorate from being a sharp minded, wonderful husband, father and successful businessman, into a shadow of himself, someone who couldn't remember his past.
'It would be a dream come true if this record raised lots of money for such a worthy cause. I just want to make people more aware of what my father-in-law and his family went through. I'm extremely proud of the song and hope people like it - but I also hope they listen to the message. It will give them a much greater understanding of the condition.'
'Having heard the song and met Ian, I am deeply appreciative of his support for Alzheimer's Society and wish him every success. There are 800,000 people living with dementia in the UK. As a charity, we really rely on the generosity of people like Ian to help us continue our vital work.'
Ian Sherrif who is a Trustee for the Alzheimer's Society, a Researcher at the University of Plymouth and a member of the Prime Minsiter's Challenge on Dementia Group said:
'Never Will Forget' can be listened to on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lIlwjAVY - or downloaded here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/iancalvert'I was at the launch of 'Never Will Forget' at a Dementia Action Alliance event in Plymouth where Ian performed the song live. The audience gave him a standing ovation and a number of people were moved to tears by the message the song contains.
'Ian received a similar reaction at a recent Alzheimer's Society conference in Wales. I would urge anyone to download 'Never Will Forget' and help to raise vital funds for people with dementia and their carers.'
