Alzheimer’s Society comment on Jeremy Hunt MP’s speech to Conservative Party Conference
Published 10 October 2012
Yesterday (9 October 2012) Health Secretary Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP made his address to Conservative Party conference.
In a broad speech, the Secretary of State discussed the Prime Minister's Challenge on Dementia and called for Britain to improve the quality of dementia care and made commitments on reforming the way care is paid for.
Alzheimer's Society comment:
Jeremy Hughes'Dementia is the biggest challenge facing our health and care system today, costing our economy over £23bn a year and with a human cost far higher. To lead an all out fight-back against dementia we need more funding for research, improvements in the quality of dementia care and a funding system that is both fair and sustainable. We also need a radical step change in attitudes and the way we treat people with dementia.
The Health Secretary set out a bold ambition for Britain to lead Europe in tackling the disease. We look forward to working with Jeremy Hunt and across government in making this a reality.'
