Thatcham's local Memory Walk success
Published 26 September 2012
Volunteers in West Berkshire organised another wonderful Memory Walk which wasopened by John Boyd, Mayor of Thatcham.
Last Saturday was a gloriously sunny autumnal September day, and the Thatcham Discovery Centre was buzzing with families out making the most of the dregs of summer.
Seventy-one walkers of all ages and abilities, from babies in buggies to sprightly grandparents, joined Memory Walk, raising an estimated total of around £1,000. A fitness instructor warmed everyone up nicely with a few exercises and stretches before the walk was declared open by guest of honour, Mayor John Boyd, who joined us with his young family.
Margaret Gould, Service Administrator for the Alzheimer's Society, said
'My highlight was seeing so many friends and generations of families just enjoying being together, out in the sunshine enjoying (yummy!) cakes and nature at its best. As ever, we couldn't provide our services without our highly valued, wonderful team of active volunteers who number nearly 70 in West Berkshire. Our thanks to you all for making it such a splendid afternoon out for everyone.'
