Belmont Golf Day raises £15,000 for Alzheimer's Society
Published 26 September 2012
Wayne Barton and Chris Cole continued their incredible fundraising efforts by organising a golf day held at Belmont Golf Club on Friday 14 September, in their third year of supporting the Society
On the day a record fifty teams of four competed and the overall winners were the Gladrags from Ledbury with 86 points just beating Cadbury's who had the same number of points but lost on the count back. The winners received a golf bag each and a round of golf each at the 2010 Ryder Cup course at Celtic Manor.
Overall a magnificent total of £15,000 was raised on the day and the organisers Chris Cole, Paul Bannister and Wayne Barton would like to thank all the sponsors of the event, especially Western Power Distribution, Cotswold Mini (Hereford) and Newey & Eyre. Sincere thanks also goes out to all the volunteer helpers on the day, the competitors and all the staff at Belmont Golf Club who contributed so much to make the event so successful.
Both Wayne and Chris have personal experience of dementia, Wayne's mother lived with the illness for over eight years before passing away two and half years ago. Chris's wife Hazel has been living with Alzheimer's disease for almost five years now. They both said:
'We decided to organise this golf day for Alzheimer's Society because we wanted to give something back to say thank you for all their support during some extremely difficult times. We have been friends for many years and enjoy playing golf so it was a joint decision to raise money for the Society by organising these golf days. It's great to think that we will be raising funds to help support people and their families who live with dementia to help fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.'
Emma Dowler, Community Fundraiser at Alzheimer's Society, said:
'We are delighted and very grateful that Wayne and Chris are giving their time to support Alzheimer's Society again this year. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.'
As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Wayne and Chris to help us continue our vital work. If you would like to support Alzheimer's Society to continue leading the fight against dementia please contact your local Community Fundraiser
