The Women's India Association UK raises money to give Alzheimer's Society £5,000

The Women's India Association UK (WIA) has raised over £69,000 for numerous charities in India and the UK.  During their AGM on September 12, Alzheimer's Society was one of the UK charities to be presented with a generous donation.

Alzheimer's Society representatives, Mylen Namocatcat and Rachel Ketola were present at the WIA's AGM to receive the £5,000 donation. The gift will help fund one of the Society's PhD Studentships led by Professor Ashford at the University of Dundee. The project will look at how nerve cells are protected by brain cells called astrocytes.  This research will provide important knowledge about the protective effects of astrocytes and their role in Alzheimer's. If successful, this could be the basis of an exciting new direction for future treatments to protect against the disease.

Donations for the Society's dementia research from people and organisations such as the WIA help Alzheimer's Society help us fund groundbreaking and innovative projects into the cause, care, cure and prevention of dementia.
