EastEnders' 'nasty' Nick launches Brighton Memory Walk
Published 18 July 2012
John Altman, best known for his role as EastEnders villain 'nasty' Nick, put on his walking shoes to launch Alzheimer’s Society’s Brighton Memory Walk.
Memory Walk is Alzheimer's Society's flagship fundraising event which sees walks taking place around the UK throughout September. There are currently over 3,000 people living with dementia in Brighton. The money raised by the Brighton Memory Walk will help support people with dementia and their carers in the local area.
Alzheimer's Society supporter, John Altman said:
Ann Reid from Eastbourne, said:'I am delighted that Alzheimer's Society has asked me to help out with the launch of this fantastic event. The Society is a cause close to my heart. My father developed dementia towards the end of his life and a close friend recently died from dementia with Lewy bodies, so I know the impact it has on families which is why I'm supporting Memory Walk.'
Memory Walk 2012 is being held in partnership with Bupa Care Homes. This year Alzheimer's Society is encouraging people to go the extra mile and take part in Bupa's 'Memory Mile' at the end of the walk to raise a further £5 to support people with dementia.'My husband, Jim, had Alzheimer's disease and my mother currently has dementia, so I know the devastating effect it can have on the person who has it as well as their family and friends. Dementia touches so many of us in one way or another, that's why I'm supporting Memory Walk. I would encourage everyone to sign up for the Brighton walk and help us to support those with the condition.'
Elisa Vaughan, Locality Manager for Alzheimer's Society in Brighton said:
The Brighton Memory Walk will take place at 11:00am and will start at Hove Lagoon on Saturday 22 September. To register for the Memory Walk please visit Memorywalk.org.uk'Memory Walk is an excellent opportunity for families and friends to get together and enjoy a day to remember with lots of entertainment and refreshments. Each year the Brighton Memory walk is bigger than the year before and raises even more money. We don't want this year to be any different, we're encouraging everyone from East Sussex and beyond to sign up.
'Thanks to the support of Bupa Care Homes, Memory Walk is able to support more people living with dementia in Brighton through the vital funds that are raised.'
