'Never Will Forget' tribute record to father-in-law with dementia ready to hit radio waves in the South West to mark Dementia Awareness Week™

Published 23 May 2012

Former south west radio and TV presenter, Ian Calvert has generously transferred the rights of a song he penned and recorded in tribute to his deceased father-in-law, John Cramb to Alzheimer's Society

The song, entitled 'Never Will Forget' is a moving tribute, expressing the impact of dementia on his father-in-law and his family, which Ian and Alzheimer's Society hope will help raise vital funds and awareness this Dementia Awareness Week™ (20 - 26 May 2012).

'I'll never forget seeing my father-in-law deteriorate from being a sharp minded, wonderful husband, father and successful businessman, into a shadow of himself, someone with a sad stare who couldn't remember his past.' recalled Ian.

Those words have now become a tribute song to his father-in-law. Having won a day in a recording studio after entering a cruise line industry competition on board the Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas ship, Ian booked extra time in the studio and began working with good friend Roo McKellar who runs Heavenly Audio Stations in Plymouth. Together they transformed 'Never Will Forget' from a dream into a reality. Since then Ian has transferred all rights to the song to Alzheimer's Society ensuring that any sales from the song will be donated to Alzheimer's Society in order to help raise vital funds to help people live well with dementia today and for research to find a cure for tomorrow.

Ian said:

'It would be a dream come true if this record raised lots of money for such a worthy cause. I just want to make people more aware of what my father-in-law and his family went through. I'm extremely proud of the song and hope people like it - but I also hope they listen to the message. It will give them a much greater understanding of the condition.'

Michael Pearson, Alzheimer's Society Community Fundraising Manager West and the Channel Island, said:

'Having heard the song and met Ian, I am deeply appreciative of his desire to support the work of Alzheimer's Society through income opportunities this song could generate. I wish Ian and the song every success and I am thrilled to play a small part in its promotion as I believe the words in the song will receive a powerful and positive reaction for anyone whose life has been affected through a changed relationship.'
