A Devon flower nursery launched a new flower called 'Memories' yesterday at the Chelsea Flower Show.
The plant was presented to Alzheimer's Society ambassador Angela Rippon by Lady Salisbury during Dementia Awareness Week™. Carolyn Bourne, the Managing Director of the nursery Whetman Pinks, has promised to donate 5p from the sale of every flower to Alzheimer's Society until December 2013 and hopes to raise £15,000 in total.
The British Carnation Society, of which Whetman Pinks is a member, has also chosen Alzheimer's Society as their charity of choice. The pure white flower with abundant spicy fragrance is on the 2012 Plant of the Year shortlist.
The theme of the Whetman Pinks' garden at Chelsea centres on dementia and the role that smells and tastes have in our lives, something that can be particularly evocative for people living with dementia.
Keep an eye out in your local garden centre so you can purchase 'Memories' yourself and help us in our fight against dementia.
