Alzheimer’s Society in Aylesbury is encouraging people to get talking about dementia this Dementia Awareness Week™ (20 – 26 May 2012).

People are invited to attend an awareness and fundraising event on Saturday 26 May 2012 from 10am at Friars Square Shopping Centre, Aylesbury, where they can join us for musical memories throughout the day. Local guitarist Colin Little will be performing requests in the morning with the fantastic Elvis Tribute aka Gary Roman treating passers by in the afternoon.

As well as the chance to enjoy the musical performances, there will be an opportunity to meet local staff and volunteers who are supporting Alzheimer's Society this Dementia Awareness Week™ (20 - 26 May 2012) as well as a chance to learn about dementia.

Shoppers will be encouraged to participate in the activities on the day; sharing their experiences of dementia by filling out posters which will be displayed in the centre. Local resident and Volunteer Margaret Morgan-Owen will be selling copies of Gloriously Us, a locally produced poetry book by people affected by dementia. There is also the chance to win some fantastic prizes through the raffle and silent auction of promises which will be conducted on the day.

If you can spare some time or talent to be put forward as a prize in the auction of promises or for more information about the event please contact Sian Day on 07850 200534 or sian.day@alzheimers.org.uk

Dementia Awareness Week 2012 is sponsored by Saga Homecare. Together Alzheimer's Society and Saga Homecare hope to maximise awareness and understanding of dementia across the UK.
